Is the Air 3s just a newer Air 2s?

Mostly, yes. The Air 3s replaced the Air 2s in RayNeo's Air line, and the two share the same basic recipe: a pair of 1920x1080 Micro-OLED screens at up to 120Hz, a 46-degree field of view (how much of your vision the picture fills) that RayNeo compares to a 201-inch screen, four speakers with Whisper Mode to keep sound from leaking to the people next to you, and a single USB-C cable to your phone, laptop or handheld. Consoles connect through an HDMI adapter. Neither pair has a battery or a computer of its own; both borrow power and video from whatever you plug them into.

What changed, and which one to buy

The differences are small, but they all point the same way. The Air 3s is a little brighter on paper (650 nits to the eye against 600), two grams lighter (76 g against 78 g), and uses RayNeo's newer HueView display engine. For glasses wearers, RayNeo puts a clip-in prescription lens frame in the Air 3s box and publishes the range it supports: nearsightedness up to -10.00 and astigmatism up to -2.00. The Air 2s also takes prescription inserts from the same partner, Lensology, but RayNeo never published a range for it.

The bigger difference is that you can still buy the Air 3s new. RayNeo now lists the Air 2s as discontinued, and its own store and both Amazon US listings show it out of stock. If you find an Air 2s used or as leftover stock at a real discount, it is still a capable pair for movies and handheld gaming, and the picture is close to the newer model's. Otherwise, the Air 3s is the one to get.
