The Lenovo ThinkReality A3 occupied a unique position in enterprise AR: a glasses-form-factor device that tethers to select ThinkPad mobile workstations or Motorola smartphones to deliver AR experiences. At 130 grams, it is dramatically lighter than the HoloLens 2 (566g) or Magic Leap 2 (260g), making it more comfortable for extended wear. The dual 1080p stereoscopic displays provide a 40-degree field of view, and the device can project up to 5 virtual monitors in the user’s workspace — a key productivity feature for knowledge workers. The Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 handles on-device sensor fusion and tracking, while the heavy computational lifting occurs on the tethered host device. Dual fisheye cameras provide 6DoF room-scale tracking, an 8MP RGB camera enables remote collaboration and documentation, and three noise-suppressing microphones facilitate video calls and voice commands.

The PC Edition connects via USB-C to select ThinkPad mobile workstations running Windows, while the Industrial Edition pairs with Motorola smartphones for field workers. The tethered design is both the A3’s greatest strength (lightweight, powerful host processing) and its biggest limitation (restricted mobility, device compatibility requirements). Launched mid-2021 at a $1,499 list price, the A3 is now recorded as discontinued: as of mid-2026 Lenovo’s pages persist but the product sits in outlet and parts-sale channels, and the record flags it as a legacy deployment rather than a recommended new purchase. Enterprises already invested in the ThinkPad ecosystem that run A3 fleets are maintaining, not expanding, them.
